The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Division of Forestry is recruiting to fill both a Rural Forest Assessment Specialist and an Urban Forestry Assessment Specialist vacancy. These positions will be stationed out of our Madison, Rhinelander, or Milwaukee locations.

Position Summary:
These positions are the technical experts and thought leaders for the division in rural and urban forest data collection and analysis, setting the pace for the division through leadership, innovation, adaptation, best practices, and the transfer of knowledge. The Urban Forest Assessment Specialist and the Rural Forest Assessment Specialist will be key internal and external consultants for staff, leadership, inter-divisional teams, external groups, and partners. Program areas include forest resource assessments, forest growth and change modeling, climate change, forest carbon and statewide urban and rural forest monitoring. These positions maintain cutting-edge knowledge and expertise by staying abreast of current research and maintaining an effective professional network.

Salary Information:
Starting pay is $33-$36 per hour ($ 68,640-$74,880 annually).

Job Details:
Employment will require the selected candidate to pass a background check. DNR does not sponsor work visas, thus, in compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.

Qualifications:
Please make sure to describe the following qualifications within your resume and/or letter of qualifications in order to be considered for this position.

- Experience with collecting or monitoring field data.
- Data analysis and collection experience (this should include experience with GIS, databases, and spreadsheets and similar tools to understand and utilize data)
- Education or work or unpaid work experience in Natural Resources

Preferred:
- Experience with collecting, monitoring, and analyzing data to assist with decision making. This includes experience with software such as DATIM, USFS EVALIDator, iTree, as well as inventory software and canopy analysis.
- Education and work experience in Forestry (Degree or certificate in Natural resources or GIS related field as well as 2+ years of work experience in natural resources)
