Forester RPF

The Registered Professional Forester is responsible for the design and preparation of timber harvest plans that comply with State regulations and Green Diamond Resource Company standards and guidelines. The Forester provides clear and concise communication of timber harvest plan content to timber operators prior to and during operations. The Forester may be responsible for contract administration for harvesting operations when assigned. The Forester will also have other duties such as assisting with prescribed burning for reforestation, participating in tours of the property and assisting other departments as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (other duties as assigned)

Responsible for preparation of Timber Harvest Plans (THP) through all stages up to approval. Provides support to operation supervisors and LTOs during operations. Follows up with THP completion reports upon completion of operations.
Ensures all Timber Harvest Plans are properly engineered and documented in the field. (Roads and harvest units).
Provides appropriate information regarding THP statistics for planning purposes (Yarding methods, volume/acres, species distribution, log size distribution, special provisions).
Aids in all phases of contract administration when directed by supervisor.
Conducts THP specific archaeological and historical surveys and prepares Confidential Archaeological Addendums as specified in the Forest Practice Rules.
Provides information as necessary to assist with biological, geological, and botanical surveys and reports.
Assures that critical THP information is communicated to key Green Diamond departments including Operations, Roads, Wildlife, Intensive Forest Management (IFM) and Forest Resource Information System (FRIS).
Assists with slash burning programs as directed.
Develops approximately 4 or more approved THPs per year (depending upon acreage and complexity).
Communicates often with members of the various regulatory agencies involved with Californias Forest Practice Rules and timber harvest planning process. Interaction with members of the community may be required where THP development is adjacent to, or in close proximity to urban settings.
Interacts with GDRCo Conservation Planning Department (Roads, Geology, Wildlife, and Botany) is a key component of this position. In Klamath regular interaction with contractors will be required.
Maintains daily contact with Chief Forester.
Assists other departments when specific demands require a temporary special assignment (i.e.: summer contract supervision, logging or roads supervision etc.).
Analyzes existing ground conditions and develops an efficient, logical, cost effective, and legal Timber Harvest Plan based on the analysis. This includes a solid understanding of current road engineering design and location techniques, as well as yarding systems capabilities and their appropriate application.
Holds a unique position in which professional and ethical behavior is of utmost importance in THP preparation, interfacing with the public, and maintaining Green Diamonds high standards and positive image.
Participates in continuing education programs and training related to the forestry profession.
