Through the analysis of forest data, the Forest Inventory Analyst is able to explore forests all across Wisconsin on a daily basis (without even leaving the office!). The State of Wisconsin and the U.S. Forest Service have been surveying, analyzing and reporting on the health and productivity of Wisconsin's forests since 1930. The variety and accumulation of data that is collected is beneficial to decision-makers and researchers in public agencies, non-profit organizations and the forest products industry. The Forest Inventory Analyst leads this program and plays a key role in providing critical information to DNR Forestry leadership and industry stakeholders.

The successful candidate can choose a work location at either the DNR Service Center in Rhinelander or the DNR Central Office in Madison.

Position Summary:
The Forest Inventory Analyst leads the statewide urban and rural Forest Inventory and Analysis program in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service. This position provides invaluable analyses and reports to Division leadership and external stakeholders for purposes including trends and issues analysis to support rural and urban forest management and fire management decision making, strategic planning, and policy development for state, county and private lands.

The Forest Inventory Analyst administers contracts and special agreements for forest inventory data collection totalling over $700,000 annually, including requests for proposals, bidding, and auditing performance for rural and urban forest inventory. The position is also responsible for directing quality assurance and quality control for preliminary rural and urban forest inventory data and assisting in its preparation for public release.

The Forest Inventory Analyst also provides support and training for staff and partners, and collaboratively develops and recommends measures of success for the forest inventory program.
